I'm certainly dying to get out over the corse of next week (wk of 4th) and the following week (wk of 11th). Keep me abreast of any possibilities. 11th however is out.

Same price and they did a little renovating. Can you do the 10th and 11th instead? That week works better.

Nice report. You can't beat the 1st class accomodations at the COOS Motor Inn. Is it still $64/night?

Who wants to go President's day weekend Sunday morning until Monday night Feb17th-18th?

I can't make that trip next week with #5 and #1776. I really want to do some riding before the season's over.

01/27/08-0128/08 Nash Stream

Lampi  and #388 were in attendance.   We departed 388s house at 10am Sunday and arrived 2 Coos in mid afternoon.  We hit the Nash stream parking lot and hit the trails by 4pm.  C5 north started a little rough and thin which was expected due to the end of the weekend and high traffic.  We headed towards Errol for dinner and the trails were a 7-8 out of 10.  We stopped at an intersection and I informed Lampi I needed a pit stop soon due to some unexpected bodily functions.  While we were stopped a group of people waved us over from the other side of the trail.  We got off the sleds and a drunk guy proceeded to yell to his buddy that I had one of those new plastic suspensions, next came over the wife 10 sheets to the wind holding a beer.  She could barely walk and made a point to yell at her husband and friend that that was the last beer.  The whole time this little circus was unraveling, there were 2 kids riding in loops across the main trail.  The women then reached over and started to grab at my BVS2 shield as if she was confused on how such a helmet worked.  I kindly grabbed her hand and told her to beat it, since the helmet cost what a round of Botox injections would run since she desperately needed it.  I looked over at Lampi and said lets get outa here!  We headed up North and east thanks to #7 suggestions, towards Errol.  We found the Beggin Dog...now Northern  Exposure(?),   to be closed.  Oops!  We saw an open flag a few yards down the road and headed over.  It's another restaurant something BBQ?  What a find!  Its been there for years and we have never been there.  The small restaurant could seat around 50 if it had to, but it was in a rustic post and beam cabin with rough sawn boards.  I nice wood stove warmed the place and the owner (Joe) came over right away and explained that everything on the menu was homemadenothing frozen.  Prices were excellent and the chilli and Jims burger was one of the best Ive had.  This meal would force us to make it our lunch destination the following day.  We filled our bellies and decided to head over to the warming hut at diamond pond to refuel and head home.  24hr gas is a nice convenience.  We headed down 5 and found the trail to be thin with some open water bars.   Expected after a weekend of use.  The ride back was pretty uneventful other than going up the trail section that brings you up the bump infested hill section of C5 down towards the Nash Stream rod.  I hit it at an above average clip to put the new plastic suspension to the test.  WOW, it works.  The sled felt great and never got out of control over the 2-3 footers.  I waited a few at the end for Lampi and we shut down the machines to take a breather.  It was a clear night and the stars were clear and bright as dayno light pollution!   Another 15 miles or so and we were back at the truck with 95 miles.

Monday morning we woke and had the typical COOS breakfastsmall powdered donuts, coffee and an English muffin.  We hit the trails for 10am and went east towards Berlin.  The trails were perfect!  Groomers were out all night.  I have never been that way towards Berlin and with a lack of maps, we winged it.  I believe we were on some trails which I had ridden years ago with the WPR dirt crew.  From Berlin we headed up to Errol again for those Burgers.  Joe was glad we were men of our words and returned.  We gassed up across the street and headed for Pittsburg.  We were warned the F&G were out radaring, so we had to keep it to 45mph on trail 112.  This was freshly groomed the entire way and I wanted to open up the Apex but couldnt.  By going slow, we did get to enjoy a lot of the scenery which has always been a blur.  Once up in the Pittsburg trails we decided to head towards C5 and see if it had been groomedif not, wed head down C7.  C5 was groomed as well and it was a complete 180 from yesterday.  We had smooth sailing all the way back.  Even the notorious 2-3 mogul hill was flattened.  Once in Nash Stream though, the trails still hadnt been groomed?  Weird, since they are noted for being the best trails around.  It was a good ride with just 250 miles logged in.  Staying overnight at the Coos makes for a nice easy, relaxing ride.  #388
