RE: Feb 7th ride

I never thought I would actually say these words but here goes......Great job leading us around the county and staying on course #5, your sense of direction prooves you too can challenge the Trail Boss anytime..........Whew! That was almost exhausting to write.

Ok. except when you wanted to take that trail into the woods where no one has been for a long time and were thinking it was heading in the direction we wanted to go. Haven't you learned your lesson yet.

Sarge, I would have to agree with the 202 route, especially on days with any sort of weather and meeting up with the morning commute. If a clear day and not meeting with the morning or evening commuters on these single lane roads I do see the possibilities.

Now for a poll, who used more fuel for the day Scott's 0.7 liter sled for ~125 miles or Craigs ~6.5 Liter truck for 300 miles??? Gotta get that fixed man.

Sure was tiring work managing the sled while darting around all day, I can't remember when I was so sore from a day of snowmobiling, but certainly a lot of FUN and can't wait to do it again.

The ride home down 93 to 101 was just as long for me, I'm 30-40 minutes from the weathervane. On a normal day(clear roads) 202 will still be my choice. Snowstorms I will divert. I will also not leave from lancaster on a day trip..only when I stay overnight will I leave from lancaster again. The 20 minutes it took us to figure out where to park, we could have been in groveton parking area. We did 127 miles of fresh snow riding...many would think this as a dream day, I found it to be quite the opposite. We were the 1st to cut trail (well #5 cut most) and while it's fun for a few miles, it turns into a scary ride at high speeds. The trails were flat but very loose, we all darted the entire ride. The groomers started to poke there heads out in the mid to late afternoon...hoping for less traffic I would imagine. On the way back to Lancaster, we ran into the groomer halfway. I believe this was the 1st time lancaster had groomed all year due to lack of snow. I felt bad when we got to the truck, the freshly groomed trail was junk. The 4 of us demolished the trail since it was so fresh and never had time to set up...sorry Lancaster. I still had fun of coarse with fellow friends and WPR members, but I would give conditions a 6-7 due to lots of loose snow. Someone will have to write a full report on the ride. My redemption for the horrible call taking rte 202 was the "new" lunch dinner BBQ pit in Errol...#7 will enjoy soon!

I don't want to include anything negative in the ride report so I will post it here, but if #388 is tired today he has only himself to blame since it was he who promoted the idea of taking back roads to northern NH for a day ride.  The snow and ice only made it worse.

I would normally give a warning to other members here but I think even #388 learned taking 202 to get to 93 is not a good idea.

In spite of the ridiculous drive up, it was an interesting day of riding.  I can't remember ever riding in so much snow.  Passing groomers all day long, the county is set for superb riding for a good long while now.

Last note: now I know why we don't drop in Lancaster.  But I'm sure the Pres already knew that!

I am jealous of you snowmobilers. Someone on my staff got her wisdom teeth out so I can't get the day off.

It's just another case of the man keeping me down.

Call my cell phone after 7:00am.

Have fun,

It is all snow north of mid-state today also so the conditions should be good for us.  #1776 is still having issues, I told him to take the ski-doo but he hasn't changed some bogie wheels in that one yet.  I told him to take it anyway but it's up to him.  So I don't know if he will come or not.

I still don't want to change our plan to test the 4-place.  #10 and I will check the hubs and brakes tonight at his house and I will toss on the plate.  I will bring my spare.  I'm not so concerned about not having the track protection down because keep in mind the loading ramp already has a track on it and we should be able to ride across the level bed without spinning our tracks if we take care.  I will test the brakes with my controller tonight before I come over.

Center of Westminster @ 5am is confirmed.  We will need to stop for gas and to reg #10 sled.  Sounds like the drive up will be an adventure.

The ride you picked sounds great.  I'm not ready to get lost in Tugg Hill without a gps unit which I don't have.  I'm looking forward to lunch at the new digs.  I'll call you with an eta for loading you tonight.

#5, looking at the weather map, lyme shows a mix, while Colebrook, Groveton and Lancaster all show solid snow from this storm.  It looks like it will be snowing tomorrow morning/day so we should account for a slower drive time.  Old faithful..groveton looks like our best bet!  My suggestion is to head southeast towards stark/berlin to 19 and then up to Errol on the "new" rerouted trail, eat at Errol and head to Pittsburg via 112, depending on time, either 5 or 7 back to trucks?  Lampi and I ran this run last visit and it was a 10 out of 10.
