Ok, since the trailer is done and no additional money was required (beyond the required trip preparation work required detailed earlier in the post) would each of the trailer owners please bring an additional $46 to reimburse me on the trip .
Cash please because I will use this $$ as my spending dough on the trip.
I'm psyched - I got the red reflectors to stick!! small victories...
you know, I can't get my camper trailer brakes to lock either. From what I understand, I have a good controller (Prodigy) but maybe it doesn't put out enough voltage. with the manual lever full left, it is set to put out 6VDC, I know at max braking it will put out ~12VDC. so maybe that's when the wheels will lock up, under emergency braking.
the other thing I would like to note, is that the instructions say to "brandish" in the new pads. not sure exactly what that means, I assume it is to let the pads take a set to the turned drum surfaces. anyway, I left off the adjuster window plugs so maybe after several hundred miles I will hop out and give the adjusters a couple of spins to tighten them up a bit. we'll see how we're going.
can't wait to load, hopefully the rain is all gone.
Nice job on the trailer! Does your brake controller have a manual lever? If not, that may have been the reason you couldn't "lock" up the trailer brakes at slow speeds. Not to worry, the Ram will tow it either way.
Craig, Do you need a brake controller for the trip? I have one I took out of my Ram w/ Dodge connector if you want to use it. Quick plug and play.

ok gents, the trailer is 100% green light. everything back together and working properly. the power of the brakes is in question but they seem to be operating correctly - they just don't seem to have a lot of braking power. maybe it's not possible to test accurately at low speeds.
the back-up lights are incredible paired with the marker pylons, it was a cinch to reverse in the darkness. that was a nice surprise. probably won't be able to see squat with sleds loaded but whatever.
#10, #388 says there is no spare tire in his truck so hopefully you threw it back in your trailer or truck. this trailer uses 5 lug wheels with 20.5x8x10 tires so if that's what your spares are then please bring at least one here to use for the trip.
if I didn't know any better, I would say the trailer has a look that is longing to travel north. I think it has been some time since it has been used for it's intended purpose. when I told it we would be loading soon, I think I noticed a gentle smile widen across it's flank. it was happy. I could tell. it will serve us well.
Well, I'll spare the gory details for the ride up, but the 4-place is ALMOST road worthy. I really need this downpour to stop (or at least lighten) before I can finish. Let me give you an update, here is what has been completed:
- Installed license plate light/bracket and license plate and reg - $12 - Installed 2nd rear corner marker pylon - $25 - Installed [2] tie down cranks - $16 - Installed [4] (of 6) side reflectors (2 red ones won't stick!) - $8 - Installed [2] complete electric brake assemblies - $130 - Resurfaced [2] brake drums - $20 - Installed [2] new inner bearing seals - $6
This is what remains: - Make electrical connections and apply heat shrink - $13 - Mount wheels and torque lug nuts - n/c
Notes: - The 2 red rear side reflectors won't stick - The center tie down nut in the left rear sled position is missing - We do not have a tongue lock, does anybody want to pick one of those up? I prefer the standard Master Lock padlock with the shielded loop.
I will update once the work is completed. The trailer is awesome. Don't forget to bring your covers and some tie down straps for the rear!
