It's a question that has puzzled children for decades. Just how does Father Christmas travel around the world in just one night delivering millions of presents on his reindeer-pulled sleigh?
The answer is surprisingly scientific - he exploits the space-time continuum.
'He understands that space stretches, he understands that you can stretch time, compress space and therefore he can, in a sense, actually have six Santa months to deliver the presents,' Professor Larry Silverberg from North Carolina State University said.
Santa could use nanotechnology to fit all his presents in his sleigh
But how does he fit all those presents into his sleigh? He just carries the ingredients and 'grows' the presents according to Professor Silverberg.
'We believe that he uses nanotechnology to grow the presents under the tree. He's figured out how to turn what we call irreversible thermo-dynamic properties into reversible ones.
'He starts with soot, candy, other types of natural materials, puts them under the tree and grows them in a reverse process to create the presents, wrapping and all.'
Santa's trip takes in all continents and all time zones and Silverberg says his sleigh is equipped with an onboard sleigh guidance system to help him navigate.
Meanwhile his reindeer are genetically bred to fly, balance on rooftops and see in the dark.
