Awesome report Dragon Man. I have two sons that I am dreaming of that day to do what you just did with yours. You have relit the fire to keep me focused on the ball.
Kudos to you + your son for a successful sled trip. You're representin' and make wpr members proud!
Well I went north to Maine with my son for the second weekend in a row to my friends camp in Athens. The trails were a very close 10, soft and flat. Left town Saturday morning with his friend Jarod and his dad Jim to enjoy the great outdoors, once unloaded we made a treck to find the place where Jim stayed the weekend before in Cambridge, Left with sleds all fueled up on 84E, right outside the front door, found the club trail 50 which led us toward Cambridge. Great ride, was like a 10 mile ride to Hager Park. everything went great for the 1st day 60 miles of near perfect conditions, even passed an old buck pulling a makeshift drag behind an older Skandic. Day 2 we woke and fired up the sleds for the treck to the b-52 crash site on Elephant Mountain. I've wanted to make this ride for a couple years now and glad we did, now back to the ride...took off on the power lines of 84W to the club trails north of Bingham, found some shortcuts we didn't notice last week, leading to 87N to the Bald Mountain Trail. Took a rght on 86E for a quick 25 miles of white highway into Greenville for fuel and a stop at the Black Frog for lunch. Got directions to the crash site and 4 miles across Moosehead Lake to our 11 mile trail up toward Elephant mountain. We Found the site at the same moment that a memorial was being performed for family members to remember their loved ones that perished in that Jan 24 1963 crash, this was like a full Military funeral complete with a 21 gun salute and taps all performed in a frigid sunny temp of approx -10 deg. Looking at what parts remained from the aircraft makes you wonder what really must have happened on that fatefull day. Well headed back forfuel and the long ride back in the very cold darkness. Total of 160 miles for the day Day 3 brought us a morning of -25 deg to pack everything up for the ride home.
Special thanks to Moe for the 4 place trailer (which I may be buying from him) to keep our rides safe and dry.
