That was a funny end to our trip. #5 mentioned before the trip about a ground issue...glad it showed up in #3's driveway and not on the return trip. I hate trailers!
Note the common denominator. Maybe there is an issue on how the truck connector is being wired in (that baseless accusation oughta get him started!!) ha!
#3 is right, and I freely admit as a pathological skeptic that those back-up lights actually did a very good job for me on several occations.
One problem with trailer lighting that I have found over the 1 million times I have fought this fight is that the lights rely on the circuit (ground) being completed by the metal mounting bracket/housing of the light. A prime example is the license plate light on that trailer which no longer works. That is a new light mounted directly on the aluminum trailer frame. If you take a jumper wire and touch the light housing and scratch a fresh spot on the frame the light comes on.
This is a never ending battle. I have found new connections need to be made nearly every year. But we have all experienced that.
After much discussion and a fair amount of investigation, we use meters for ohms and volts as well as a full wire inspection, it was determined that is was the the ground that was at fault. FYI that trailer at one time had working back up lights. In any event, all that worked for us before, works well now. We will need to do some rewiring. Many of the connections are corroded. Particularly the main connector. That will be easy to switch out and I may do it myself.
Never heard about it - I think the problem for the Sarge last year (I didn't hear about #3 having any issues with blown fuses this year) was his truck. I was in it, and it had electrical issues the whole way up and back.
Is it believed that the issues are related to the lights or brakes? What was the problem/fix so we will know it if it comes up again?
#3, please share some info. And most importantly, good job!
Is this a case of fast typing? Or coy sarcasm? The trailer lights that were working are now working? In other words, you didn't break anything? Well done #3. Hahahaha!
I do know that both side marker lights are out at least one of the elec connectors does not stay in the light and it is possible that it is contacting the frame and causing a short circuit. The marker lights can be found at Dufours and any trailer sales retailer. These are the small circular type (amber color for side markers). The only other electrical on the trailer is the brakes.
Will the troubleshooting take place at the Pres' home? I can almost certainly be there. Members please note how busy the Pres is these days that he is scheduling time for a beer 2 weeks out!
It appears the 4 place has some electrical issues and is blowing fuses on tow vehicles. May 24th we are planning to trouble shoot and solve this issue.
All are welcome to stop by for a beer. Time TBD
