It is 3:30 in the morning the day before we leave for Limerock and I am having a hard time finding rest. I have put my lists together and later I will make runs for supplies. Tomorrow is departure day.
Last Sunday I confirmed something that the Pez has said for years: that if you are taking a day off from family activities, it is better to ride than to watch someone else ride. It was amazing to see the Pro A 250 and AA riders wail through the woods at the Union Hare Scrambles, but it made me ache to not be riding myself. Of course the Pez was right.
But... camping trackside at Limerock, only feet from the action, visiting and sharing excellent food for 2 days with friends and 2nd generation WPR racers while the LMP and GT racing machines zip by at 100+ mph just can't be beat. After the engines fall quiet, a walk through the paddock and a stroll around the 1.5 mile circuit, where unless it rains, your soles stick to the asphalt especially at the apex of each corner is the perfect transition to the campfire and evening shots of Patron with beer chasers. A good nights sleep to get ready to bake in the steamy hot of race day.
And don't forget a possible visit from "Race Fan".
