I so wanted to do the same but following the storm I was busy for a few days here with a much smaller two-cycle machine ... (Chainsaw). The thoughts and temptatin did run through my head many times however.

Your image of what it means to "ride" in my yard is entirely accurate. Line it up - hit it - brake hard - turn - repeat for 2 miles (or until bits of dirt and grass are clearly visible). Ha!
However, the neighbor on the side of the house I do the blasts on is a WPR snow riding (in theory anyway) member (#1776). So actually, I am doing a public service announcement for the club and the riding season. Are you all doing your part??
#5, highest mileage member of 2011-2012 season to date.
#7 painted a very funny picture in my head as well. I am making my moves early #7 for next season. I have finalized a deal for another truck and will never sit at "car" level again. I am watching the mags for hints of the upcoming 12's. I have also renewed my snowmobile may subscriptions and plan on purchasing multiple new videos to hold me over for this season. By next year I should be in good shape to purchase my new sled...it is already picked out! Unless something drastic comes out! Till then keep your track facing down and do a speed run for me!
There's no riding down here in the southern hemisphere, but I look forward to it soon.
Reading your ride report- kind of painted a funny picture for me. I'm imagining you revving your motor and blasting across the yard as fast as you can and slamming on the breaks inches before the first tree ...etc and your neighbors looking out their windows and rolling their eyes.
The season is officially underway.
Oh, an I've just about had it with all this "Last Season" crapola.
I chuckled to myself as I remembered that I don't believe there was a "first rideable snow of the season" pool this year. We usually don't have to have those dates in until Thanksgiving - but not this year!!
I logged 2 miles on the XC with this storm. I had to do it because I'm sure the sled has never been ridden in October before! It was bitter sweet because I realized the only reason this was possible is because I never summerized it this year. Just shoved it in the shed.
Of course I'll go through it, but not for storage, just maintenance and season prep!!
