A wonderful post #7, that really hit home and was a nice appetizer for all the great stories to come soon. I had a similar moment when we got our surprise October snowfall. I was more moving the machines around in the shed to make room when I realized a great place to get them out of my way was to take 'em for a rip around the snow covered yard.
#19 and I did a fix on the Mini Z that was needed from last season (I actually scavenged a part [chain clip] off the Honda 50 so I musn't forget to replace that!) and they were off and running tearing it up, and I pulled the old black mare over till she fired up. After the appropriate time for it to stretch out and clear the cobwebs from a long summer nap, I squeezed the happy flapper (as #388 once cleverly dubbed it).
There we were, zipping past eachother, first the elder, then the yungun, with giant smiles stretched across our faces and the wonderful smell of blue exhaust lingering in the air. It definately feels like some sort of arrival when that stuff happens. I get that when I'm skiing and hiking with them as well. Feels great! Even better than the Patriots with a 30 point lead with 8 minutes left in the game..
In preparation for the Presidential visit on Sunday, I cleaned out the garage and saw that two eyed red machine staring right at me, lonely...like a puppy in need of some attention. So I wheeled it out to the front yard. I fired up the engine and caught the sweet smell of white/grey smoke that fills the air on the first start. After a two minute warmup, Ashley and I were riding around the yard and out up to the street. When we hit the long straight away we approached 20 mph. A quick turn around and we were back on the driveway ready to roll my old friend back into the garage. It's a good feeling knowing that the machine is ready to go on short notice. It's nice when you fire up the machine and your oldest daughter wants to go for a ride.
Pray for snow and think about when we should take the first day trip to Nash Stream.
