Nice trip with #5, the boys, K and S. We had a tremendous time at Killington. It was fun skiing together. Hope we didn't slow everyone down too much.
It was crazy hot on Monday. We had to stop for drinks 4 times during the day. The snow was soft, heavy and slower. The kids and I got some great runs in. We spent a lot of time over on the skyship gondola. Never got that "Taco" but we did manage getting the Empenadas. Complete with some Mexican music and some #7 salsa dancing. I have the video.
Glad everyone made it. We will have to do it again next year.
Though not Santa Claus, #7 eased the blow of no snowmobile trip by planning a family skiing trip to substitute for the last minute emotional high of going and the devastating let down of not.
It was a blast and the spring skiing conditions could not have been better. Much thanks to #7 for promoting this terrific event which would not have otherwise happened for us.
Translation for #13- The weather reports, prospects of having to travel up with #13 and drive home with him, feed him, possibly pitch in to buy him gas, listen to his rants for two days, reminding him to brush his teeth, watch him ride like an old lady and wait for him at every fork in the trail - all this equates to a no brainer- no trip!
I can't stop thinking about the trip now!! I am almost packed, charging communicator battery packs. Looking at maps. Meditating with a vision of the approach to Pittston's Farm (not sure if we will head that way but that was amazing conditions last year. Actually, so wasn't that lookout, forgot the name, where we could see what we believed was Sugarloaf/USA).
Don't forget Daylight Savings Time starts on Sunday morning at 2am so be sure to move those clocks ahead on Saturday night before you retire. The sun will be higher in the sky when we get up but then we will lose an hour of daylight for the drive up.
Do we plan to stop to eat on the ride up (my avatar comes from last year's dinner) or should we plan to eat before departure and then just a snack in the cabin while we plan Monday's ride?
Speaking of which, do we each want to make a portion of Monday's meal? Let's throw out ideas so we will have a nice dineer. Do we go for meat pies again or go more traditional? I could make sweet and spicy sausage with sauteed onions and peppers. Then a salad, garlic bread, and so on. #5 better half has a treat for those who attend for us to enjoy (consume) when we are there.
#99 says he is in. Oh wait, no one has actually heard from #99 in a year or so. He might be (if this is even possible) a worse member than #4. BTW #4 why don't you stay off this site and tell your buddy #99 to do the same
I am letting myself get excited. I had written the winter off. Breaking a 20 year tradition was not sitting well.
All Hail the Pres! It was like asking a child if he wanted candy. The words "I'm in" were out of my mouth before I thought about it - and felt SO good to say.
I suppose we can do regs on Sunday evening when we get there or maybe call ahead of time so they will be ready Monday morning. We could pick them up at breakfast.
What is needed to book the cabin? The one we had last year was perfectly good to me, I forget what it cost. Who cares!
If we go up Sunday late afternoon/evening, that will give 2 full days of riding, how shall we decide the planned routes? I loved going around Moosehead. We can hit that hill with cell reception in the middle of the lake. Is the ice safe? Do we want to try for Baxter on Monday? Is it possible? Or do we head west? I'd rather not have to reg in NH if I don't have to but I wouldn't let it stop the group, I would just need to stop and that will slow us down. Anyway.
Getting pumped. I started putting my gear in order. Ready to load the sled into the trailer. Speaking of which, I have an empty spot in my enclosed, who will take it? #3, I think that extended track sled of yours will still fit. Just a matter of getting to you for pick up. Perhaps Sunday and then head east on 119 towards 495 > 95 and so on up.
I will not need to stop for wiper blades. The weather is warming again. It's March. Let's do this thing! C'mon members join up. (I hope I can go after this rousing post!!)
