Lake Ride 1/26

image.jpgDylan and I loaded up the sled for a quick ride while our better half Brooke was getting her hair done :). Conditions looked good but snow cover was a concern. After getting the little guy bundled up, he could barely wait to get outside and ride. The XR fires up in an instant...it has a nice rumble but it just isn't that sport bike scary fast sound, the Apex used to breathe. I opted for the 2 up seat and backrest for this journey once again...I've yet to ride it solo! We made our way onto the lake and found ourselves heading towards the club house. With only 3/4" of snow cover I was worried about cooling and slides. I gave it some throttle and am quite surprised at the power this sled puts out...impressive :) The Bergstrom trail grabbers do their job at keep things safe as far as traction but the are not meant for hole shots on the ice...just as advertised. After I got used to the sled, we picked up the pace. I stopped to check on my passenger and he was having a blast! He was ready for his first speed run! There were plenty of ice fishermen out so picking a spot to run was tough...they had big bay covered. I decided to put some miles on and proceeded to tour the shoreline. After completing the entire lake we got a good run from the mountain side towards the bridge....mph quickly climbed towards triple digits. I gave Dylan our # an he wanted to try for something higher....conditions were safe, sled was stable, so we pushed it and made his #....you'll have to ask him our speed:) Quite a few sleds were running and one guy was parked out in front of Jamie's...I thought it may be Jamie himself so I stopped only to see the guys track rolled up onto his seat and him waiting patiently for a tow. He informed me that his buddy's sled couldn't budge him and looked my way for help...some quick thinking and calculating made me realize I wasn't going to burn a $120 belt towing his heap off the lake...so I explained I wasn't studded and wished him luck...call me a sled snob...it is what it is ;) We headed home and loaded up with 17.8 miles. The XR ran great and never once showed a sign of getting hot. Just an 1" or 2" of snow would really make the lake nice. #388
