RE: Rumney Ride 2/23/13

A great ride report always makes you feel like you were there.  And this was a great report, well done #7.  My favorite part was your "best part of the day".  That was very sweet.

A Saturday ride came together with #6, Elisa and Ashley in the Rumney, Groton and Lyme area.  We met up at the usual place at 9am for some riding. Both #6 and E have Ski Doo 800s this season. #6 has a Blair Morgan edition that roars like tortured lion. We headed right for Ryzak's store for gas and snacks. The snacks that miss Ashley picked up were eaten in the truck back in Tilton.  FYI, snacks are for out on the trail, young lady. We rode along route 25 over to the quick route to Baker Valley club house.  We stopped to look around and help some guy on an 06 GSX 550 Fan that was sputtering and having trouble staying going. We messed with the guy's idle and suggested a change of plugs. He said he had the sled "redone" two years ago and hadn't touched it since. We told him to blast it at 7K RPM for a while.

The trails were great in most spots and lousy in a few spots. Once we got into the elevation between BR and Lyme we hit some perfect conditions of fresh groomed wide open trails. With Ashley on the back, I noticed her squeezing tight when we approached high speeds. With #6 leading the way and a very capable E right behind, we made good time logging some serious miles. We stopped and talked to a guy on and ETEC Renegade who had recently been robbed of his sleds, chainsaws and all his equipment over in Warren. Bad story, insurance would pay for a fraction of his losses. We spent some good time talking on the trails when we stopped and some good riding through the big hills around Lyme without ever actually going into Lyme.

#6 wanted me to take his sled for a ride. It is pretty fast, peppy and loud. He has the other can to be changed when he gets some time. He also needs to get a bigger windshield...brrrrrh.  With about 60 mile under our belts and snow falling pretty good at this point we headed south toward the Hebron area. With a choice of a long route back to the camp or a short route, the youngest member of the group requested the short route. We headed back through Sculptured Rocks and up to the powerlines. We were astonished to see the frozen waterfalls and the swimming holes from last August. We found the south side of the powerlines and back to the camp for a good day of riding.

There were some bad spots where we were riding on snirt and some gravel, but for the most part the conditions were really good throughout the day. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of snow. With two hours of snowfall and 67 miles under our belts we loaded up and headed to the nearest pizza place near Newfound Lake.

The best part of the day was the 67 mile hug I got from the prettiest girl in the world.  Both #6 and E were gracious hosts and a special thanks goes out to them for treating us so well.
