Today's ride it all started with a 4:45 am start or was it 5:45 am. #1 was smart enough to set his alarm with daylight saving time in mind ...or was it that iPhone os that knows better? Anyways we were on the normal routine Brookline for gas and breakfast then of to 6's /E's abode. Unlike most arrival we were greeted by # 6, so #1 and I unloaded got dressed and headed down to the camp. Ranger and hippie led the welcoming party while #6 was cooking his breakfast and drinking coffee. I am guessing they were on yesterdays time. Soon we where gased up and ready to go.
The trails were hard not much snow being kicked up but just enough to keep the sled cool. The warm weather was a concern but never turned out to be an issue. My temp gauge saw a high of 150 but was typically in the 130's. the high temp was more due to long periods of idling than condition with the exception of the trail that runs next to rt 118.
My electronic stratagy failed miserably today, GPS 1 battery's died, GPS 2 never picked up a signal, my video camera should of had so great video of big red pulling some big time wheelies but some how I was shutting off the camera and then videoing my feet....not good.
Just before we went to the other side of 118 we came across some wild child's all piped out there was a blair Morgan renegade , zr 900, f7, zr 600, switchback 800, and a skidoo 440 race sled....ie big red. As they left # 6 makes a comment is my sled that loud? I decide to show him how loud it was and headed down the trail. His 800 pulls hard and felt great as I contemplated where to turn around I saw the trail the yahoos went up an thought Why not it was headed right back to our rest area. This proved to be one of the biggest mistakes ever. These guys did nothing but dig holes when ever and where ever possible, it was nearly impossible to ride in there marks but what choice did I have. Unfortunately I caught up to the guys breaking trail and buried 6's sled in a hole nose first. I was screwed after 5 minutes of packing the snow around and under the sled big red decided he would lend a hand and help me out of the not so glory hole. 2 try's later is was heading out the way I went in....thank god I was on pack snow again.
The rest of the day we sliced and diced our way threw the Lyme and baker river tails, the groomer's had to have been out all night grooming our route. I had a chance to ride the good old yamaha (little sarcasm) this sled is running strong and pulls like it use to in its hay day, with the smooth trails it was a pleasure to ride and push to a solid 85 mph she still had more but I just was not comfortable to do more. I asked 6 to take it for a spin and he of course went faster......We did 68 miles for the day....enjoyed one last winter view on the plateau of 6 and E's land before loading up for the ride home.
6 and E thank you for another great day out of the compound..
2.......note one more ride report than 3 in 2013
