I'm posting the new Qc trip dates Depart: 3/6 Return: 3/11. Drop point: Relais #22 northwest of LaTuque. Ride is intended to go counter-clockwise near Roberville, up to Chimbaumagua, then to the west south and back east as conditions and distances are determined.
Rode it around my yard...plenty of low end. I do have a cover. Just ordered a new battery so I don't have to worry down the road. Need 1 more storm and we'll be ready up here...it's amazing living in a snowbelt...you go from bare ground in Keene to a a foot here
I may be able to get away for a few days in upper NH...or you can save some $$ and stay at my place and we can explore the trails....either way, I'm interested
Is anyone willing to "follow the snow". I'm not sure I want to change my vacation week. I'm willing to ride anywhere and drive my truck to get there. Yep I'm not going down without a good fight. Are any WPR members "yes men" or are they all "no men"?
If indeed there is a trip in March, I'd still be willing to go on that as well, another discussion for another time.
Just got a call from the Pez stating that the trip is likely postponed. I'm disappointed for 2 reasons: First, I'm thinking that snow will fall like crazy for 2 weeks up North and also while we are there. 2nd, I need a vacation so badly it hurts.
So I am hearing that the trip dates need to be changed. Just posting in case anyone was checking in on planning and to confirm what the new dates will be. I am hearing we are pushing to March.
Pres, great job getting pen to paper. It makes it so much easier to discuss with the map, thank you. So before I read Loop 2, or even #7's comment in response to Loop 1 - I took out my calculator and converted 402KM to Miles. I laughed out loud with a 250 Mile Day 1. Not that we haven't done that mileage. And I know #2 Bossman (as he is referred to in my cell phone) wouldn't even blink at that distance, especially since he is coming directly from a snowmobile trip (I want his life!!) so he will be all tuned up in prime riding condition.
What is it about Roberville that we have to have these marathon rides to get there?!?!! Haha! My first impression is Loop 2 has 3 out of 4 days of 250+ miles and I fear that may not be tons of fun but more like work. So at this time I will vote that this is a back up loop in case we need snow. I do like that the drive is only 6 hours.
#7, I would say you can have the Mont Tremblant and Le Studio (now called Studio Morin Heights, however, not sure if a snowmobile trail goes through this town) in the same trip, but when I put in "Laurentian Mountains", Google puts this as a region that lies to the south of the Saguenay River and north of Quebec City. Upon suspicion that all of the ski areas, including Orford, Mt. Tremblant, even St. Anne and the Valin Mountains are all considered part of the Laurentian range, Wikipedia does confirm this.
So options for Loop 1 would be to start in Roberville, two reasons for this suggestion: 1 is there may be better roads to this town versus the Relais, making our drive shorter time wise, and 2 is it would make day 1 ride shorter and day 3 ride longer to even them out a bit. Okay, more thoughts on Mont Tremblant, while I absolutely want to go to this place, I think I want to do it on skis and not by snowmobile. The town looks awesome and I think it would be a destination I would like to take the little lady as well as #19 and #43 as well. Tell you what #7, let's plan a weekend trip there this winter with the other non-powered members (i.e. #10 and #1101) to this Perennial #1 In the East rated resort by SKI magazine every single freakn year (it's really starting to bug me). Deal? By the way, turns out we were close to Mt. Tremblant when we rode to St. Zenon several years back.
So Loop 1 would be the northwestern most area we would ride in Qc. I have to admit that Chibougamau scares me a bit it seems so remote. There are no safety towns going in or out of that town. It will be like Sept-Iles, it's all or nothing. Thinking about it gives me chills, especially thinking that will be day 1 of the ride. I believe it will be a lot of riding after the sun goes down. TALK ME DOWN PRES - CALM ME DOWN HERE!!!!!!!
I will break out my Quebec maps and try to add some interest and facility info to Loop 1. It's only 2-1/2 weeks away!!!!
Nice job mapping this out. This route does not include the Laurentian Mountains. I was hoping to ride through Mont Tremblant and ride right past Le Studio (Where Rush recorded Moving Pictures). Anyhow I'm stoked for some serious riding 4 short weeks away.
Also, not to be a total pain in the ass, but can we keep the daily rides below or around 400KM=250Miles? I see your proposed trip keeps it within those parameters.

Beautiful inn with 7 rooms and 24 cabins all equipped with wood-burning fireplace. Bar, restaurant, snowmobile rentals, ice fishing, snowshoeing, skating rink, sliding, etc. Warm welcome, meals and gasoline. Winners of 10 Grands Prix du tourisme québécois.
I think its smart to plan to ride into the mountains of course. Drive seems reasonable. #2 and I said we'd like to fiddle with a loop to the west, this might be a good starting point?
There was also a suggestion to start in northern Maine, ride into New Brunswick, towards Gaspe. But that plan would require multiple registrations to consider.
Good suggestions to start the ball rolling. They've got good early snow in VT..... just sayin.
Mont Laurier to Val-D'Or through the Laurentian Mountains and back with a return in a roundabout way. Auberge Du Draveur is the starting and ending place.
Just throwing something out there: a high and tight fastball to get your attention. Any thoughts?
