Pres, that was awesome. I just got a rush of enthusiasm for this trip. The Neil Young songtrack put me over the top.
I can't wait for March to come! There is 1.5 feet of snow in the yard. I cleaned the power valves on the 600 and brought her to life. The smell of the VES Gold was like a woman's purfume in the air.
I am starting to pack my saddlebage tonight. I am ready and waiting for the early morning of March 8.
You can thank #3 for the high mileage estimates. I think it's funny that his last post was that he thinks the mileage might be too high since he's the one that gave the estimates too high. talk about psyching yourself out!

ps> #1776 and I just picked up his 2001 Sonic Blue XCSP800 with only 1,900 miles on it. you can't believe what he paid for it - what a deal. #3, just don't plan on a lot of value when you go to sell. I'm not. He has already mentioned part of the reason he bought it was to join our Canada trip next year.
No problem with tingling balls when the snows flying! My suspension is in and I think I'm going riding either Monday or Tuesday hopefully out of Fitzwilliam!
#7, forget about Chandler for now, since you are Trail Boss for day 3 would you call Relais La Cache (phone number is on maps you provided) and find out if there is room for us on 3/11/08? If so, we should book that place now. If not, we need to make an alternate plan.
There's some nice stuff on HCS about GASPE this week.
It's worth checking out.
I am not having a lot of luck with nightlife in Chandler, I looking for restaurants etc and not doing so well. Drinking beers at the bar looks like the apres' ride agenda. I'll keep looking and ask around HCS.
Drive Up: Depart Riverside Restaurant 5am (est. 12 hours) - Hwy Boss: #2 Day 1: Rimouski > Matane > St. Anne > Mt. St. Pierre/Mont Louis = 220 mi. - Trail Boss: #5 (you got it, I'm leading us out!) Day 2: St. Pierre/Mont Louis > Murdochville > Gaspe > Perce > Chandler = 225 mi. - Trail Boss: #3 Day 3: Chandler > New Richmond > Relais La Cache = 185 mi. - Trail Boss: #7 Day 4: Relais La Cache > Metane > Rimouski = 205 mi. - Trail Boss: #99 Drive Home: Depart hotel 6am (est. 12 hours) - Hwy Boss: #10
Notes: Total riding miles: appx. 800 mi. Trails 595 & 597 are a priority All overnight cities pending reservations All members should try to pre-register sled to save time on the drive up Book double occupancy rooms as follows: 2&7 / 3&99 / 5&10 / 13&388 #7 will look into Roast Beef Sandwiches in Chandler (or #99 can ride back to Perce at night)
I was thinking, registering 8 sleds while on the road will be a lengthy process, especially in a 10+ hour drive. So if we do split into 2 groups of 4 (by 4 place trailer or not) then if there are 4 members willing to reg in advance, then the non-reg 4 could leave 45 minutes earlier and we can meet at that Ski Doo dealership. Did anyone get the name of that place (I bought gloves there so maybe I can find a receipt) so we can make sure they have enough for us that day. Maybe it's even in their computer so they can fill them out in advance if we call from an hour down the road. I can take on that job. We hit that place in the middle of the day and right off the highway so I think it's a good stop to do it.
Your suggestions are on cue #5. I love poking comments at the Prez and as always, someone takes it too seriously. No matter what size someone is...never offer a "glove slap"..that's just GAY. A solid punch to the face sounds more manly. On a serious note, I've had the maps out on the dinning room table quite a few times now and am in the process of putting a couple of different routes together for suggestions. I think we really need to come up with a comfortable mileage per day, keeping in mind that the trails along the coast are going to be fairly straight and fast. My personal wants/goals are to see Peirce rock/coast and head into the mountains for some elevation and scenery.
Now first, I know I'm way out of my element when it comes to planning route suggestions but I want to be a part of the planning this year. So don't anyone take my input too seriously. It can only be dangerous at best!
Second, way too harsh #388. If you weren't the size of Sasquatch, I would glove slap you myself. I love the map the Pez posted and it even printed out nice and neat. It had mileage and is a really good thing I [without time for HCS] can see what's being suggested by others. I know defending other members is fem, but I think he won't bother defending himself, he'll just plan his own trip - let's not go there, half the fun of the trip is planning it together.
Ok, I can figure no way to leave from RDL and make Gaspe part of the loop unless we average 278 miles per day.Even with 5 days of riding it would still be an average of 222 miles per day and thats with no room for problems. So it looks like the advice we were given that this is a 6 day ride to do the whole peninsula was good information. Or, we leave from RDL and go Rimouski-Matane day 1 > Metane-St. Anne-New Richmond day 2 > and head back via 5.That is much less seacoast which personally I wish to see.so it looks like Rimouski must be our point of departure. Are we talking a 12 hour drive now?I know some of you have mentioned those rocks in the water, where are those? Has anyone noticed that Gaspesie looks like a big lobster claw. Now you know I just added a lot of value with this post.
Maybe I'll just stick to helping get the 4 place trailer ready for us. #5
I agree on the hotel reservations. I got some responses from HCS and if it was just a few of us we could get away with same day booking, we would be gambling on 4 rooms throughout the trip. It looks like March should give us solid dependable conditions, but...anything could happen with mother nature or breakdowns, whatever. My sources tell me it's very acceptable to call and cancel/change reservations the night of.
