Speed Racer was an excellent movie. It has been a long time since I have seen a children's movie done well enough to actually entertain adults at the same time. The visuals and racing sequences were breathtaking as expected, but the story line was excellent. John Goodman was great as Pops, and Susan Sarandon was, well, it was Susan Sarandon. I don't know who Christina Ricci is but there were no fun bags in this PG film.
The little fat kid was hilarious. The story is about the corruption of racing and corporate influence on race results. Speed shows them all he doesn't need them to win, just the Mach 5. Racer X is an awesome character as well.
5 Stars - highly recommended for any race fan. Great ending scene - see if you can figure it out, I did! Speed Racer would beat the pants off Raikonen and Massa in those pesky Ferrari's. Especially if he could use those jumper jacks!
Go Speed Racer Go! Oh yeah, watch for some key elements from the origianl show and they use the origianal score making this an instant classic.
Great movie. Tremendous action scenes. Robert Downey Jr. brings his A game to this movie. I went with the whole family. All four of us enjoyed it thoroughly.
The 6 year old begged to see it. I wanted to go too. The other two begrudgingly went along to make it a family affair. All were pleased.
You know throughout the movie that they will play that song. When they finally do, it's the perfect time.

I saw "Nim's Island" with my two kids. Jodie Foster is a shell of herself. She is not believable as a basket case/adventure writer/agoraphobic. Nim is played by some kid from the movie "Little Miss Sunshine". Dakota Fanning must have turned it down. The father was another forgetable face.
Nim, her friends the animals and her father live alone on a small private island. They somehow have internet service. The father is a biologist who gets lost at sea and is saved by a Pelican.
The movie was boring, not believable barely watchable.
