RE: Possible Hotels

Here's a post from HCS with some hotel ideas...

"Starting from RDL will make for longer days than your wife may enjoy. I would suggest you trailer to Matane. Starting there I would travel counter clockwise. The first night in New Richmnd (220mi)at the Francis, then on to Perce (230mi)and stay at La Table a Roland. The third day you travel around the tip or through the local trial to the 597 and north, staying that night in Mont Saint Pierre(200mi) at Hotel Motel Mont Saint Pierre. The last day will be easy but very scenic taking you back to Matane(150mi).

Hotel Rimouski vs. Valga Here's my pitch:

If we get stuck at Valga, we will watch boring movies from the 90's for hours on hours and we would attempt to will utilize high school French classes from 20 years ago to communicate with our hosts. We will be bored out of our minds like last year.

If we get stuck at Hotel Rimouski we can sit in the bar, swim in the pool, order anything we like at the restaurant and take a cab downtown and not be bored out of our minds like last year.

hahahahahahahha!! #2, that was hilarious!!  get it "bona" "venture".  I love it!  Absolutely true by the way.  This trip may be more about getting a little tail with a some snowmobiling thrown in as well.

Valga does not fit the guidelines this year if big hotels were what was voted on.  If someone doesn't attend a meeting and doesn't submit a suggestion then they need to go alone - or plan their own trip.

I agree that Hotel Rimouski was suggested last year and was a fine submission.  Since there is secure parking then I am on board with that.  Besides, my (then) 7 year old truck and our old open 4-place will not be a target at all.  This starts us in Rimouski which we know makes great 1st and 2nd day rides.  The pool will be a nice treat to look forward to upon our return.

I'm really not worried about low snow, this year is shaping up just like last, a big early snow, then the great melt, and then we will get steady snow building up to our trip.  #3 will recognize good clockwork when he sees it.

Staying near the rock might be nice, last year it was more of a gas stop than anything else.  I guess Hotel Exploratuer is out this year.  Man, I think I was just going to have the nerve to talk with the bartender this year.  There will be other bartenders though (and bed makers!)

There was something to be said for the "peace of mind" we had in leaving the trucks & trailers at Valga.  I vote for Valga (or some small out of the way place ) as a starting point.  We can still go counter clockwise  etc..

btw  Where did this whole "big Hotel " thing come up (I must have missed the memo..)  I'd like to stay at Fleur de Lys with a great view of the rock if we can swing it

I propose a base at Hotel Rimouski for the trucks, then travel to Bonaventure for a big day of riding on day one.

Rimouski to Bonaventure is 312 Km or 193 miles. There is a Rio Hotel in Bonaventure. This would allow us to take a new route and travel counterclockwise route toward Perce.

Any thoughts?

I know #7 and I looked at the Rimouski Hotel for last year and they have a secure parking area for people who leave from there hotel and return after doing a loop. The only problem would be low slow locking us in or out, which happened a few years back.

I set an email to all of Riotel hotels/Motels in the Gaspe........so far only 1 reply

Riotel Matane reply (this place is probably to close to Rimouski)

Yes, it's possible to stay in our Hotel.  The trail is coming by the 132 road close to us.

The rate is at 158.00$ plus taxes for two people including breakfast and dinner.  The rooms for that rate are on the first floor or on the second floor.

For the thirth floor, the rate will be 178.00 plus taxes for two double beds.

If you need more information, do not hesitate to contact us at 1-800-463-7468.

Thank you

Brigitte

Check them out. Some are better than others, but the selection on the Gaspe in March is thinner than one would like.

Go ahead and respond if you like one.
