Nice job #7! Dropouts should pay 25%. My wife brought up the old..."Are you sure you want to go due to finances?????" Simple reply, "well honey, the boys anticipated people dropping out so I put down a $1,000 retainer!" Her reply, "oh, I guess you have to go" Yes dear, I do.
#2, can you send me the link where you plan on getting your permit? I believe you said you were going with Bill and could change datesif we had too?
We are booked for 3 rooms in Matapedia at Motel Restigouche for January 24th and January 28th. Rooms are $72 for rooms with 2 guests and $82 for rooms with 3 guests.
The place is right on the local green trail.
The trucks will be parked indoors with 24 hour security.
The in house restaurant is closed for the season, but there is one down the street a couple miles with parking large enough for trailers.
The guy next door provides trail passes and is open on Sundays and Mondays. His contact information is:
Restigouche Garage-Richard Mill 418-865-2966 if you would like to call ahead and have it ready for you upon arrival. Using him could delay an early Monday morning start. I'm getting mine ahead of time. Call this guy to be sure.
We can cancel up to a week ahead of time without problem.
After that we get charged.
Feel free to call Pete Dube' with questions at 1-877-865-2848. He speaks perfect English and the reservation is under my name.
I volunteer to book 3 rooms for the first night and last night in Matapedia.
I rarely receive advice. 3 rooms should suffice for 5, 6 or 7 riders should one or two drop out.
I volunteer all 6 of you on this trip to pay me .17% (that's right I rounded up) of the total cost charged to my credit card if we don't attend.
Things left to do: get my trailer out of my back yard through 13" of snow so I can bring my sled to Bob's for a tune up. Stuck truck story to follow....

Do you want me to book it now or wait? Any thoughts?

Hello members; any meeting that we actually come away with planning is considered a good meeting and successful. Attendance was #s: 2, 3, 5, 7, 13, 388. What follows is a recap of the two optional trips that were conceived. This morning is a stark reminder of just how cold it will be going north in the dead of January again. It will bring us back to the days of what I call "pinchy" cold and frostbite.
OPTION 1: Day 1 (riding): Matapedia > TQ5 East to New Richmond (orange trail optional) > R595 North to Saint-Paulin > TQ5 East to Sainte Anne des Monts Night 1
Day 2: St. Anne des Monts > TQ5 East to Grand Vallee > local orange trail south to R597 South > to Chandler > TQ5 East to Perce Night 2
Day 3: Perce > TQ5 North to (south of) Gaspe > local orange trail west to R597 North > to Murdochville > local yellow trail west to R595 North to Relais La Cache {optional: R595 South to New Richmond} Night 3
Day 4: Relais La Cache > R595 South to New Richmond > TQ5 West to LAlverne > local orange trail to TQ5 North > to Albertville > R587 South to Matapedia Night 4
OPTION 2: Day 1: same as option 1 Night 1
Day 2: St. Anne des Monts > TQ5 West to Saint-Paulin > R595 South past Relais La Cache to local orange trail north/east to Murdochville > R597 North to TQ5 West > to St. Anne des Monts Night 2
Day 3: St. Anne des Monts > TQ5 East to R597 South > to Chandler > TQ5 East to Perce Night 3
Day 4: Perce > TQ5 West to R587 West > to Matapedia Night 4
Confirmed details and responsibilities:
7 members confirmed for trip #s: 2, 3, 5, 7, 13, 99, 388
Very productive meeting, good call #3. Glad to see that we have a detailed plan.
The ride home from the meeting was going great until I reached Hopkinton, then the blizzard came. I was cruising at 70 mph, then it was 55 mph, then it was 40 mph and finally down to 25 mph. I saw some spin outs in front of me, but I made it home without incident.
I left Centerice at 11:15pm and made it home by 1:15am.
On Sunday, I rode the yard again. We ended up with 12 inches of snow. I got stuck about 5 times in the powder. I towed the kids behind the snowmobile in their new sleds. The kids had a blast.
The snowmobile started right up and ran like a charm.
#2 has called me out. It hurts, but I won't pretend its an unfounded acusation. If my plan works tomorrow, and it usually NEVER does, I will be the first one at the meeting. That's right, I said it, the first one!
I will pick a table, sit down, and order up a tall one. In fact, I'm going to go all out here and predict that I, #5, will actually be on my 2nd brew by the time the first WPR member arrives. How do you like them apples?!
I will be tired and somewhat brain dead I fear, but all of your faces, the maps, and the talk of 4 days of fantastic snow machine riding will get my blood flowing and bring me back to life.
I think I will attack #99 here. He will miss another meeting, but he still plans to attend the trip. It was moved back to January in large part to fit his schedule. The club is happy to oblige. The Brothers Dike are always ready to go. They don't care what month, or what country, or whatever, they are just ready to ride the annual trip.
It is so nice to see the old spirit of #3 again. He always used to criticize me that I was too focused on the hardware and not the riding - but it seems his new hardware has given him rejuvination. And good for him, I for one support it fully! It's a celebration of the level of the riding experience the club has attained.
Remember: - the Blood's cabins which started it all - 12 riders around Moosehead - #10 never shutting down and keeping it alive - #10 blasting into the Great White North leaving care and worry behind - Bernard taking us to breakfast and playing guitar for us - crossing the frigid currents of the mighty Seguenay with sleds aboard the ferry - riding into the fabled mecca of Jonquiere after 3 years of trying - so much snow we couldn't ride our snowmobiles - moose and pasta from the kitchen of a true Canadian master cook - arriving to patte and bruchetta in a fire-warmed cabin - riding at the edge of the world on the northern shores of the Gaspesie - seeing The Rock come into view out in the bay
These are just some of the most memorable moments this club has experienced. And there will be more... only 1 short month away...
#7 I love the added pics to your posts, gets me tingling. I'm not telling where... #2 I do recall one meeting you were not at, but I don't recall the details. All - of course I am in perfect attendance also, except this Sat. I can not make it as I have a holiday party to attend. Tough time of year. All - Don't we have 3 meetings per year prior to the trip? This will be #4, what's going on this year ??? As for the trip this year, well some orders fell out, therefore no commissions for #10 thus regretfully can't make the trip this year. I'm counting on several Day Rides in NH and/or ME though. Let's go! Next year I plan to be back on the big trip and sporting a new ride (if all goes as planned). I once again would like to offer to host a post trip event to review pics, vids, and refreshments. #5 this time it can be held above the Toy Box too.
p.s. I have to agree with #2 this has been the most fun (or atleast adventurous) year of meetings yet. Let's keep up the good work boys!
#10

I am happy to meet you anywhere you'd like. I am assuming you are willing to drive up this way in the hopes we can attract the other "Lay Abouts?" Any time after 8:00 pm. I like the sound of the New Hockey Bar on Airport Road or Slattery's or....
I can meet with you on Saturday evening. That works better for me anyway. Good luck with the competition. I sold windows to a guy up in NH a few years back and he showed me all the stuff that was involved...pretty cool for the kids!
