Ughh, what a bummer. I was up in North Conway for an early Valentine's gift to my girlfriend and was happy at all the snow cover they still have.
Im glad she's not discouraged enough to not give it another try! Hoping for a good amount of snow here this week. I just returned from helping my club clear some downed trees and hope to be grooming this weekend!

well, optimism didn't overcome reality this weekend, but the room at the inn was booked and we were going anyways so I towed the machines up with low expectations. In reality the trails were ridable there were many sleds out, just no good for a novice, here's how it went.
For future reference, it is still possible to ride from the Lyme Inn, you can ride the length of the Green (common) and access local Primary trail 154 through a commuter P lot. However, we trailered to Dartmouth Skiway and unloaded. The trail was very thin and frozen solid. The XC overheated in 1 mile as the low riding speed required was not enough to kick anything up onto the exchanger as well as an uphill trail trying to gain elevation as quickly as possible. The novice rider was quickly discouraged and I saw the look of disbelief in my poor judgement. She was right, I chose poorly.
After letting the engine cool, we headed back to the trailer and I decided to give Baker River trail system a look see. We unloaded at the BRVSC club house and there were lots of locals out riding. They said the trails over by Sculpted Rocks was groomed and pretty good riding, but we needed to do 8 miles of powerlines to get to them. She did great riding out of the clubhouse but the icy hills and tight turns on the powerlines were too much. The downhills were the end of our riding - I don't blame her at all - it was a desperate attempt to make something of barely marginal conditions but it was not a good experience.
So we turned around after about 4.5 miles and headed back, I was happy no one was hurt and the engines were not harmed. She had a great attitude and said she would try again in better conditions. What more could I ask for!
Like an old time original ride report - well done #388, good detail mixed with the spirit of the ride and a pic to top it off. A+ work.
I am taking the little lady for a weekend in the Lyme Pinnacle trail system this weekend. the rain has been tough but post last night says grooming is very good in the high country, so we will make a go of it. haven't ridden these trails in years, my favorite memory of this area is #2, #3 and myself making speed runs up a section of trail with like 6 rolling jumps in the trail at appx 35 mph to get fun air. we took pics and marked eachothers long jump on the biggest of the rollers.
Would we be able to connect #6's land to #388's land?
I woke to a beautiful sunrise and looked out at the ridge and saw the windmills calling me. I didn't plan a ride today but with the warmer temps and the ability to just walk out of my house and uncover my sled made it an easy decision.
I mounted my new GPS and fired up the yamicat. Out the driveway and down the road I made it to trail 392...my main connector trail leading to the NH trail system. Heading northeast I found a mix of thin to groomed trails. Having a half tank of fuel, I wanted to head to Goshen for a fill up.
I made it up to the windmills in quick order and was now looking across the valley towards my homestead. The views are breathtaking and I'm lucky to have them close by. The trail was thinking with alot of bare spots since it gets direct sunlight and it's been cleared for the Mills. I expect the trail to be subpar up there and I was right on picking it to travel in the morning vs the warmer afternoon. Utilizing my GPS, I navigated my way through the trails and found my destination...I fueled up and took a snack break.
I proceeded to head north on 391 to lake sunapee and did a few loops. I headed south on 380 towards Bradford and made a left on corridor 6 headed towards Washington instead of a right. I turned back and righted my direction on 6 in Pillsbury state park. South on 391 and 386 brings me back to lempster land.
The trails are great here and I'm very fortunate to have them out my front door. Today they were showing signs of the wacky weather patterns we're experiencing. We will definitely need more snow!
Highlights were the views and the 2 moose I ran into on trail 390 coming back from the Bradford area. Also the fact that I saw 1 sole snowmobile the whole day.
I'm getting used to the yamicat...with it's 141"track it definitely pushes in the corners. The previous owner has some crazy cobra head carbide setup? I'm going to switch back over to Bergstrom. I love the low end grunt but this sled is no lake racer or top end machine...it's geared low. Total miles were 81.7 . My last ride with my cousin was 85 doing the same loop only the opposite way. My next adventure will bring me either to the Andover area or mt kearsarge. #388
