Weather has been a bummer for sure...with my clubs permission I utilized the warm weather to cut a trail directly across from my driveway linking to the trail system...last year I had to drive down a dirt road for trail access. There will be a club scandic parked at my house so I can groom.
Wow, one whole week with no posts, I am betting it was the near 70 degree temps over the weekend that took everyone out of the state of mind. well, cooler temps are back and we need to get our heads back on topic. I'm sure the temps didn't help the trails up north but after this week I will try to do some homework to see what is/will be open in the coming weeks.
I should be looking at a 2nd machine with #23 later this week and he is ready to go with his primary machine and brand new trailer. I'm sure he is jonesing to go and certainly would want to do a shakedown run before he commits to joining our trip next month. he has the dates.
Speaking of which, I think the Pres is claiming we have 9 committed to the trip - if so - wow, I mean, wow! That's some kind of recent history record for the annual trip. I'd love to understand who we have on board this year, I will take a shot of who I think I heard was in and if members could either confirm or correct me.
2, 5, 7, 10, 18 + 1, 23, boss hubby, who am I missing?? Is it 3? Is it 388? Is it 9? Is it a +1 I forgot??
I wonder if we will see an appearance from any of the honorary members such as 4 or 66? How about 1101 or 1776 could it be?? Probably not.
If #3 will not post on the site any more, then I'm taking his signature sign-off...
Scroll down, you already requested the time off from work. Feb trip is 16-20, drive up Sunday, ride Mon-Wed, drive back Thurs. Leaving trucks in Millinocket snow permitting.
I think it's funny that this year's annual trip thread is titled "spitballing"... and it's not even hijacked either!!
What are the dates of the Feb trip? What day do we drive up? I'm going to try to find a place to stay the first and possibly the last night and park the trucks all week.
Has anyone already done this?
NEOC looks pretty full on the website, but I have not actually called yet either.
These are great maps Pres. For others reference we stayed at NEOC (BC on the first map) and rode mostly east and south of that spot. The trails were excellent. On the last day we rode to Baxter SP and #5 rode in on the park road about 3 miles and it was ungroomed but rideable if we needed to pass through.
I gather we would be riding from the north if we tried to connect to these trails.
I know the plan is to have a progressive ride which works well for smaller groups. Do we need to adjust the plan for the larger group or firm things up with parking and accommodations a little earlier than normal?
We should check out Caribou Cabins, renting a house, Caribou Inn & Convention Center, Presque Isle Inn, Aroostock Hospitality Inn, Long Lake Cabin Rental.
VRBO, AirBNB and Motels.com also look like good resources.
It's getting closer and prime Feb dates are filling up. Is a meeting in order in early Jan?
That means break out the saddlebags boys! I am very excited to be doing a progressive ride again, these are like Disney trips for me, I love the idea of a continuous ride into the unknown. Only modern technology in the area of portable respiration has given us this opportunity back. Please remind anyone who asks what the space program is for that we benefit directly from the scientific breakthroughs we achieve from it.
Speaking of the benefits of modern technology, I will use newly acquired mapping software to come up with possible ride day treks that can be calculated with gas and food stops yielding a comfortable and convenient ride each day. This used to be done with maps and calculators and slide rules along with reading tarot cards, rolling dice and tossing chicken bones. Thank you space program.
#2, I will need the snowmobile base maps reloaded back into the eTrek since they are somehow missing again. I apologize for this oversight in my blind ambition to get the Tomato Trail (long) loaded into the unit for a progressive ride of a different kind.
23rd Annual Trip........So we have dates for the trip 2/16 to 2/21/2020 ....2 days of traveling 3 days of riding....the only destination discussed was starting in millinocket and heading north on a progressive ride to Forte Kent and back

I will only note that the 3 that made the trip last year are the only active posters so far on the site.
Okay so I am no longer open this Thursday, the 7th. For #2 the 9th is out so how about 14, 16, 21 or 23?
If it's just the 3 of us (possibly #1101 would join to hear more about a trip) then let's plan to meet more on a route for #7 to make a quicker drive home. However, cousin Mike is playing almost every Fri and Sat nite these days so I could toss out some dates and locations for a Saturday nite (I play tennis on many Fri nites now) and he would be thrilled.
Also, for the record, my sales kickoff dates in January are 13-16. In Minneapolis so if we want to do the snow train I could meet you guys there ahaha!
#2 won't go on his wife's birthday, understandable and a nice tradition he sticks to. I cannot vacation on the last business day or the first business day of any month. I'm also planning a ski trip to Utah presumably after we lock in our snowmobiling trip plans. February is good for me and the safest bet for snow.
I went to Bob's Ski Doo today to set up a yearly maintenance run through. Probably looking at new slides (3000) miles, chain case oil and track tension. Nothing major.
1. #'s 2,5,7 rode Maine last year and had some of the best riding conditions imaginable. Finally made it to ride in and around Baxter State Park. (The view of Katahdin from NEOC was enough motivation to make me climb it this summer.)
2. I share the itch to return to northern Maine again. My last experience there I was on the ZR580EFI and did not get to ride the Allagash Trail because hadn't solved the overheating issued yet. Still appreciate #27 sacrificing his day to return to the cabin with me.
3. Drive is reasonable, within New England, don't need to wait in any TSA "security" lines. Can we go back to what we had before - these lines do nothing for security - it is a modern day "New Deal" program.
4. I just read The Maine Snowmobiler (received copy again after all these years due to registration last year) and it got me fired up enough to visit the WPR forum.
5. #7's first suggestion of the season and it's a good one.
That's enough reasons I think. How about dates, my company will have it's annual sales kickoff in January, but the head of sales, who runs the meeting, is infamous for not committing to dates until last minute. However, at the last quarterly meeting, this issue was raised (only 10 days notice) and he promised he would be better. I don't have dates yet, so the February dates sound good to me, no risk of interference. My birthday is the 11th and I could leverage that saying it is my birthday present this year so don't F with it.
First meeting: it has been a long time since I have hosted a meeting here in Princeton. I have recently made jambalaya and was told it came out great again. Happy to feed the crew. Do we want to do a weekday or weekend night - what's easier for folks nowadays? I'll throw out dates for one of each: Thursday, Nov 7 or any for that matter, or Saturday, Nov 9 or 16.
I haven't smelled it yet, but I started the machines this past weekend and talked to them that it is coming. I need to do a bit of maintenance on that crazy rear suspension on the Axys. I think Old Faithful is ready to roll.
Glad you asked... How does Caribou, Maine Convention Center in February sound (but not on #2's wife's birthday)? It's a bit south of Madawaska, Van Buren and Fort Kent. It would give us plenty of riding each day. They have a nice big bar, plenty of rooms and parking.
I rode there 18 short years ago on Yamaha Phazer 500 fan, Also my maiden voyage with the club.
